I-1 A TRANSPORT group has been established in York with headquarters at the offices of Flowers Trans
port, Ltd., Fetter Lane. This was stated by Mr. W. Bridge, head of the company and chairman of the West Riding Area of the Road Haulage Association, when he addressed an Association meeting in Leeds. There would be co-operation in many towns to pool traffic, he said.
The question -of staff dismissals should be postponed until the fuel position for goods vehicles became clearer, he urged. In the case of Flowers Transport, he said he would in no case consider dismissals until the New Year at the earliest.
NEW WAGES COUNCIL THE Road Haulage Wages Council
is due to be reconstituted on January 1, but the Ministry of Labour has not yet received' a full number of nominations of members. Powers exist to enable the present council to continue in office until replaced. It is not expected, however, that the new council's formation will be long delayed.
Mr. H. F. Marks, who at present represents the National Association of Furniture Warehousemen and Removers on the wages council, has been unanimously nominated again by the executive council of N.A.F.W.R.
"RETAIN 20 M.P.H. LIMIT" TWENTY-TWO of the 29 London borough councils support a suggestion that the 20 m.p.h. limit for heavy goods vehicles should be retained and strictly enforced. Of the remainder, six state that the limit should be raised, and the City of London thinks that the question is of little importance to it.
The standing joint committee of the councils are to make representations to the Minister of Transport for the retention of the limit.
