An Extension of a Scheme under which Local Authorities take Joint Action.

A FURTHER extension of the it scheme for the regulation of motor omnibus activities by a joint executive committee of representatives of local authorities, which has been successful in the case of those districts which centre on Otley, Yorkshire, is proposed by authorities on the outside of the district affected. The Shipley delegates to the Wharfedale and district committee have suggested that there was the probability that, in the near future, they might have to make arrangements for a regulating' committee to incorporate Bingley and Keighley, whilst the Ilkley representatives said they would have to consider linking themselves up with Skipton and Keighley, as services were being developed

along these routes. . _ The standing sub-committee for Shipley and Baildon sent forward to a recent meeting of the full committee a recommendation of the Baildon District Council to the effect that, in view of certain complaints as to the Shipley to Baildon service provided by the Premier Transport Co., Ltd., of Keighley, steps should be taken to withdraw all licences issued to the company to ply far hire between Shipley and Baildon. This recommendation was supported by the standing sub-committee, and was discussed by the full executive committee in private. After the discussion it was announced that the executive committee had accepted the recommendation and that all licences would be withdrawn as from December 31st. • The committee, decided that all applications for licences shtluld be in the hands of the clerk by February 14th next, and that arrangements would then be made for the annual inspection to be held.

The danger caused at the stopping place for the Leeds City trolley-buses, at the corner-of Station Road, Burley, was referred to, and the Burley representative said he would bring the matter to the nectice of th,Burley Council, with a view to a stopping place farther down the road being provided and inconvenience thus avoided.

Reference was also made to the proposals of the Bradford City Council to seek Parliamentary powers to run motor omnibus services through the district, particularly on the route to Ilkley, via Burley Wood Head, which rises to a height ot 1,090 ft. above sea level. The read was described as a death-trap for such traffic, and it was stated that it would require £10,000 to put the road in a fit state to take motor omnibus traffic. Moreover, the road belonged to private owners, and was repairable by private persons.

It was felt, however, that the matter, as it stood at present, did not affect the committee, and for this reasv no resolution was passed.
