Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE news report under the heading "Scots Fears" on page 3 of CMJuly 31, contains a serious allegation which is totally unfounded.

Such "whispering campaigns" are notoriously difficult to refute but there is no lack of willingness on our part to discuss and endeavour to resolve any problems which FTA members, or any other customer, may have.

It is arrant nonsense to suggest that this Company would take retaliatory action against anyone giving evidence to the Monopolies and Mergers Commission no matter how critical that evidence might be. Those who know the Scottish Members of the FTA will doubtless share my scepticism at the implication that they might be susceptible to such illogical fears.

By virtue of the volume of business it carries, MacBrayne Haulage Limited is an important commercial customer of our ferry services. There is however, no undue preference by virtue of their being an associated company. Our co-operation with them, like that with other hauliers, has the one simple objective of providing the best possible service to the islanders. N. J. D. WHITTLE Caledonian MacBrayne Ltd Killermont St, Glasgow.
