all-groups and has 18 months to run, have not driven a lorry previously. Now due to carry on my business as a cattle dealer, I have purchased a Seddon cattle truck plated at 13.25 tons gvw. This can be run on an agricultural licence as I carry my own goods and livestock for the farm.
Do (a) need an 0 licence? (b) have to keep a log-book of hours worked, (and what are they?) and (c) do I need to take an hgv driving test before I can operate this vehicle?
A To answer your questions in order la) You will need an 0 licence in due course. The Licensing Authorities have not yet got as far as dealing with vehicles taxed as -farmers' goodsbut they will do after all the C-licence people have been dealt with, You will be notified by the authorities when the time comes to make your application. (b) You must observe the new drivers' hours of work and keep records of these hours if you exceed four hours driving daily or travel more than 25 miles from your base.
The new driving hours, when goods are carried, are as follows: maximum daily driving time, 10 hours; maximum daily duty time (including driving), 11 hours; maximum spreadover time, signing on to signing off, 121 hours (14hours must be spent off duty during this time); statutory breaks, -1 hour after hours on duty; minimum rest between working days. 11 hours: maximum on duty time per week, 60 hours: minimum off duty time per week, one period of 24 hours.
When animals are carried, the spreadover period may be extended to 14 hours daily. The total on duty time may also be extended to 14 hours but the total driving time remains at 10 hours. There are other concessions which apply. (c) When your existing all-groups driving licence expires you will need to renew it and obtain an hgv driving licence for Class 3. You must take a test on this class of vehicle before your existing licence expires, but you cannot apply for an hgv licence (if you pass the test) until your existing licence has less than six months to run.
