A LIGHTWEIGHT E.R.F. eightI-1 wheeled tanker which entered service last month with lnd Coope Ltd. can carry 100 barrels (3,600 gal.) of beer . within the existing maximum-gross-weight limits. This has been achieved by using an E.R.F. 68GX3L chassis with Hendrickson Air-Ride rear bogie and Eaton single-drive two-speed 19800 axle on a bogie equipped with Fire.tone Duplex 18-19.5 tubeless low-profile single tyres. Also, the cab is a'lightweight alloy-panelled KY type, the Gardner 6LX drives through a David Brown fivespeed direct-drive gearbox and the fuel tank and mudguards are in aluminium alloy.

Also aiding weight-saving, the tank, by Thompsons of Bilston, is a single-compartment unit without baffles, and the stainless steel main structure (which is flexibly mounted front and rear) is clad in 18 s.w.g. alloy over 2 in. of Polyzote lagging. It is designed for an internal pressure of 30 lb./sq. in.
