('OMMERCIAL VEHICLE output ■ .-.• and exports declined in June after showing an improvement in May. Statistics issued by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders show that the .weekly average production in June was 4,346, compared with 4,930 in May.

Junes output totalled 21,729 units, of which • 10,314 were for export and 11,415 for the home market.. Goods vehicles, road haulage tractors and special types numbered 21,133, made up of 10,832 under 15 cwt. capacity, 8,962 of 15 cwt. to 6 tons, and 1,339 over 6 tons. The 541 passenger vehicles built during the month comprised 272 single-deck and 263 double-deck motorbuses and six trolley buses. Fifty-five battery-electrics were also constructed.

During the first half of the year, 119,275 vehicles were manufacttired 154,414 for export and 64,861 for home users). Goods vehicles, road haulage tractors and special types accounted for 115,262 (58,287 under 15 cwt., 48,433 from 15 cwt. to 6 tons, and 8,542 over 6 tons), passenger vehicles for 3,743 (2,457 single-deck and 1,220 doubledeck motorbuses and 66 trolleybuses) and battery-electrics for 270. Pedestrian controlled electrics totalled 525. • Exports during June were valued at £5,309,164, representing 8,942 units, bringing the figure for the half-year to £33,565,364 (55,113 vehicles). In addition, 1,988 used commercial vehicles (£906,605), 49,427 agricultural tractors (121,040,639) and parts and accessories to the value of £36.696,462 were shipped during the six months.

NEW STRACHANS LUXURY BODY

CTRATHRAE II is the designation of 0 a new 41-seat luxury coach body which has been produced by Strachans (Successors), Ltd., for Scott's Greys Coaches, of Darlington. Of light-alloy construction throughout, it is mounted on an A.E.C. Regal Mark IV chassis.

Exceptional all-round visibility is a notable feature of its construction, the narrow window frames offering little obstruction to a passenger's vision.

A sliding door is fitted just behind the front wheel on the near side, the driver's door on the off side acting also as an emergency exit.

A,heating, ventilating and de-misting system is incorporated, and additional ventilation can be provided by sliding windows on each side and three hinged panels in the roof. A large locker with hinged lid at the rear and .spacious parcel racks in the saloon provide maximum capacity for luggage.

NEW SHELL-MEX DEPOT OPENED 'THE first of 15 new establishments in 1 Britain, the Pickering depot of Shell-Mex and RP., Ltd., was opened last week. The storage compound holds two 86,000-gallon tanks and 14 12,000-gallon tanks. The filling structure for road tankers has 12 loading points and fuel can be pumped thrOugh at the rate of 250 g.p.rn. Six vehicles c:-.1 be loaded sithultaneously. •

The depot serves an area extending up to 35 miles from Pickering, formerly supplied from Scarborough, Whitby, Malton and York.

670,000-GALLON FUEL TANKS

AN underground storage tank of 670,000-gallon capacity is one of the features of the new bulk depot of the Vacuum Oil Co., Ltd., Wandsworth, London, which has come into operation. The depot is supplied by barge from Coryton refinery, and has modern equipment for the rapid filling of road tankers. The company's methods in the distribution of Mobilgas were described in The Commercial Motor on January 30.
