Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Truck and artic registrations continued to gain momentum in March, with an increase of 41% over March 1993.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, which supplies the industry figures, is surprised that registrations increased to 4,072 units in March—up from 2,893 in 1993. It expects sales to level out for the rest of the year but says the increase—the third monthly rise in a row—may lead it to update its forecast of 39,000 units over 3.5 tonnes being registered this year. Last year's total was 36,358. In March Iveco Ford retained pole position by registering 1,155 units compared with 718 in March 1993. Much of its growth came from fleet deals and increased sales of Eurotechs and SuperCargos.

Mercedes-Benz, which regained second position, attributes some of the growth to hauliers deciding to complete their truck purchases in their 1993 financial year.

Mercedes registered 642 units (up from 520 last year); Leyland Daf took third place with 624 (up from 480).
