Hirers face claim for bridge damage

• A haulier faces an insurance claim to pay for the damage inflicted on a bridge last week by one of its drivers which disabled a railway service for two days. Bridgnorth-based Shropshire Skip Hire, would not disclose the size of the claim, which resulted from a crane on one of its trucks scraping the roof of the bridge, which is just south of Bridgnorth. Rail operator, the Severn Valley Railway Company is hoping that its claim will discourage other drivers from chancing that their trucks will clear the bridge on the B4555. It is annoyed with the most recent accident, the latest of three in a fortnight, because the driver lives near to the bridge and it says, must have known the road. But according to !police, the driver says his truck has previously passed through the bridge's clearance of around 4m with no problems.
