• The Road Haulage Association gave official notice last week of redundancies among its staff as part of a farreaching restructure of regional services (CM 23 September 1993). The move is designed to reduce costs.
Three of the seven regional offices will close down and the six district managers will have to compete for four regional directorships.
The regions currently employ 45 of the RHA's 75 staff.
The four new regions will be Scotland, the North, the West and the South served by existing offices in Glasgow, Darlington, Bristol and Peterborough. The distric managers at those offices are Tom Brattin, Geoff Dunning, acting manager Simon Higgins and Chris Wright.
The offices to close will be Farnworth in the North-West,
Tipton in the Midlands and Addlestone in Surrey. The district managers at these sites are Bob Entwistle, Michael Farmer and Roger Wrapson.
RHA director-general Bryan Colley says: "Sadly there will be some redundancies but no dates for an announcement have yet been agreed or announced."
The changes are expected to yield "reasonable" savings on the RHA's £3.5m turnover.
