Fleetdtive runs about 200 light vans and lorries out of a fleet of 4,300. Lex already operates Lex Van Contracts, a light CV division, and Transfleet, for trucks.
• Crane Fruehauf is about to deliver over 50 new trailers to Intertrail, the trailer rental company. Inter hail announced in January a £1.4 million investment in new equipment this year and plans further investment next year. The order includes 39 tri-axle semitrailers running on air suspension with lift axles.
• Tile and brick manufacturer Marley, which runs a transport fleet of 100 vehicles, increased its 1987 pretax profits to £55 million.
This is the first year the group has not announced its transport division results separately, although managing director Geoff Lampard says the section "performed extremely well". He claims that competitors could assess Marley's transport costs and results and undercut them more easily.
