Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THOSE of you who drive abroad will know that the general standard of continental truckgtops would be an eyeopener to many UK drivers.

The Routiers organisation in France has been working for 50 years to promote truckstops that provide good food in substantial quantity at a reasonable price and served in a friendly atmosphere. The search is now on to find the standard by which British truckstops should be judged. Together with Scania and CM, Routiers is sponsoring a competition, Truckstop 84, to find the best truckstops in Europe.

Too many professional caterers have got it into their heads that what the drivers want can be satisfied by allowing them into the fast food outlets that have recently sprung up on the motorways and elsewhere. Routiers' own research shows that this is far from the truth.

What is required is good wholesome food, economically priced. Too many restaurants on service areas and main trunk routes are run by organisations fat with administrative and other unwanted overheads. Professional drivers simply can't afford to pay for them.

We wish Truckstop 84 every success and hope it will be a regular feature in the campaign to improve transport catering standards. Entry forms are available from Truckstop 84, Room 304C, Quadrant House, Sutton, Surrey SM2 SAS.
