Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

This is, to me, another step towards our becoming a police-run state. This new law must be one of the most ludicrous ever thought of. They seem to be hoodwinking the transport industry, which undoubtedly means an end to fair competition. Only larger firms, especially State-run companies, are to benefit from it.

No longer will the man in the street be able to start off in the haulage business without first passing extremely difficult exams, which I might add, the existing managers need not bother to sit.

This is in itself creating a "closed shopsituation, where those already in sit pretty. Eventually there will be fewer firms trying to cope with more and more traffic, the end of which must result in far greater prices on the kitchen table. BARRIE WILLIAMS,

Llanelli, S Wales.
