Although there are a number of maintenance record systems for use in connection with fleets of commercial vehicles, these are basically an extension of information given in manufacturers' handbooks adjusted, for convenience, to individual user's requirements; bearing in mind the particular operational conditions, the extent to which the fleet is made up of different types of vehicles and the variation in annual mileages.
Regarding legal aspects of maintenance it would be advisable to obtain a copy of the current edition of The Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1966 no. 1288, price 6s 6d, from HM Stationery Office. Several of these regulations are devoted to maintenance, whilst Schedule 5 sets out the requirements as to the efficiency of brakes.
