A WARNING that loss of traffic, loss of
revenue and rising costs must not be permitted to overtake the South Wales Transport Co. was given by the chairman, Mr. W. M. Dravers, in Swansea last week at a presentation of long-service awards. Mr. Dravers said that last year passengers carried by the company fell by five per cent.
"You may not think this a very impressive figure," he said. "But when I tell you that in 1956 we carried over 91 million passengers and in 1966 we carried 58 million, you will be able to tell that we have lost over onethird of our passengers in 10 years."
Mileage had to be reduced—and that had been done quite extensively, But it did not end there. Costs per mile had also to be cut. "It seems to me common sense that we should, in those cases that are appropriate, transfer more services to one-man operation.
