SCHEME TO MODERNIZE BUSES IN CEYLON

UNDER a scheme proposed by a combine of the existing operators, who are endeavouring to forestall drastic • legislative action to co-ordinate transport in Ceylon, 45-seater singledeckers with prefabricated ail-metal bodies will he introduced. The vehicles would be operated in Colombo and the provinces, and Would be similar to those run by the Bombay State Transport Board.

A motion by a member of the Ceylon House of Representatives to nationalize bus services has been defeated. • Its India, the Punjab Assembly has unanimously passed an unofficial resolution recommending the Government to postpone for three years its scheme to nationalize road transport. It is suggested, however, that the Government might operate certain routes experimentally.

DRISTOL taxicab owners have been 1-) notified that after March 25, 195l, replacement vehicles must be of the London type. Mr. F. J. Dove, chairman of Bristol Streamline and Black and White Taxis Associated, has described this instruction as a "bombshell." A small number of this type of taxicab already operates in Bristol.
