THE FOUNDER of KOgel Fahrzeugwerke, Franz Xaver KOgel, has died at the age of 97.
Kiigel trained as a master coach builder before taking over his employer's Ulinbased coach building business in 1934. By the early 1950s his company was a supplier to Magirus-Deutz, Opel and Krupp; it later specialised in manufacturing trailers.
The company went public in the 1990s and acquired axle and trailer production facilities from Kassbohrer. In 1998 Franz Kogel was awarded the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (Bundesverdienstkreuz am Bande).
