• At least 50 staff are expected to lose their jobs at Yorkshire Rider following a restructuring of the company's headquarters and operating centres.
In the third major company review since 1986, consultant Hodgson Impey has helped Yorkshire Rider to prune 94 jobs. Cuts have been made across the board with the development department being phased out, and head office sections bearing the heaviest losses. All grades from clerical to senior officer are affected.
However, redundant staff can apply for 34 new positions which are said to carry wider responsibilities and demand greater flexibility. Ten unfilled vacancies will also soften the blow. Rider hopes that the streamlining will bring its administrative costs down in line with those of neighbouring bus companies.
