Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• In an obvious reference to Leyland, Sir George Harriman, SMMT president, told the Press on Wednesday that at Earls Court "a major British manufacturer is showing for the first time a prototype all-British gas turbine road tractor. It is designed to operate at around 70 mph with a 38-ton gross train weight combining suitability for transcontinental or long motorway haulage with the flexibility required in tow operation".

Sir George, who was speaking at the Society's traditional Press conference before the Commercial Motor Show, which will be opened on September 20 by GLC Leader Mr. Desmond Plummer, also referred to the Ford gas turbine engine from America which is to have its European debut at the Show.

The president stressed that Britain's commercial vehicle industry was still the world's foremost supplier of commercial transport, the value of its exports exceeding that of any other manufacturing country. He criticized the Transport Bill on several counts and felt that it remained a dominant danger to the industry.
