THERE are. hopes that the dispute 1 between the clearing house group and the long-distance hauliers' committee of the Road Haulage Association will' be satisfactorily concluded. Proposals made by the chairman's committee to heal the breach were considered last week by the group. It is believed that a reduction in subscription rates is 'proposed. The Association's finance committee have now to consider this .suggestion..
The group now have no chairman and a. successor was not appointed last week. Capt. G. A. P. Upston one of the two vice-chairmen, is the only elected officer remaining in the group: The Others have resigned.
Twenty-two clearing houses are now members and others are stated to be applying for membership.
ADOPTION OF S.M.M.T. STANDARDS
WHERE appropriate, standards Vir evolved by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders will be used as bases for British Standards. This is stated in the 1956-7 report of -the British Standards Institution. N agreement has been signed by Tecalemit, Ltd., Plymouth, and the Balcrank concern of America, by which Tecalemit have access to the designs of the complete range of Batcrank equipment, and can incorporate Balcrank features in their products. The American company are large manufacturers of transport service equipment.
