THE CRITIC is often one of the most misunderstood of men. Some people are apt hotly to resent criticism of any kind, ,but thereare two kinds of critic in this world. There is the. man who notices something which be thinks is.not as it might be and who just criticises. That type of critic is not much better than a "grouser." But there is another type of man, who, seeing something wrong,. _thinks first how it could be improved. That man grves a useful purpose. He is a creative critic. 1-1,:t does good to the people„or things he criticises. He helps to build things up. People will listen to him. That is the type of man who isigoing to win The Commercial Motor competitionfor coach drivers, and which closes on October 3rd, and for which valuable cash prizes Are being offered.
It is his ideas and suggestions that we want to .: unearth and to make known. s
We want such drivers to write a short letter under this heading, "How I Think My Coach Could Be Improved," and then to fill in the.eoupon printed on this page and send it, with the letter, to The Editor of The Commercial Motor, 7-15, Rosebery Avenue, London, E.C.1, marking the envelope "CoachCompetition " (do not forget that).
For the letter which, in the opinio.niof the Editor, contains the bestsuggestions' a prizeoaf 210 will be awarded. The second and third best letters will secure prizes of 25 and .23 respectively, whilst we shall give ten consolation prizes of 21 each to the writers of the best letters who do not receive prizes.
No one need hesitate to enter because he " is not

much of a hand at letter writing." We are quite prepared to put his letter into shape for publication. It is the ideas and suggestions that will count—not the literary quality of the composition.
