designed to give double benefits in power and payload.
MITSUBISHI
• Mitsubishi Motors includes its 4x4 Shogun on-off road vehicle among its car exhibits, but on its commercial vehicle stand there will be examples of the L300 panel van range and L200 pickups.
The Shogun has a choice of fourcylinder 2.6-litre petrol or 2.5-litre turbocharged diesel engines. Both models have a five-speed manual transmission as standard linked to a transfer box, allowing two or four-wheel drive. For the diesel model a four-speed automatic box can be specified.
The L200 comes in two wheelbases with a choice of 2.0-litre petrol or 2.5-litre diesel power and the additional option of four-wheel drive.
All models can be specified with power steering: a limited-slip differential and heavy-duty springing is available for the four-wheel-drive models.
The long-wheelbase model has a bed length of 2.26m; the standard length is 1.845m. Both are 1.5m wide and can take a payload of 1,000kg.
The four-model L300 range is powered by either a 1.6-litre petrol or 2.5-litre diesel engine and also has a five-speed gearbox. The 4.43m-capacity standardwheelbased model and 5.67m longwheelbase model have payloads of 985 and 1,145kg respectively.
PERKINS
• Perkins is showing the latest engine from Gardner; the six-cylinder 12.7-litre 3101, developed from the LXDT to produce 23IkW (310hp) at 1,900rpm and peak torque of 1,355Nm (1,0001bft) at 1,250rpm. It features oil-jet piston cooling and an integral oil cooler.
Perkins range of commercial vehicle engines also includes its 298kW (400hp) air-to-air charge cooled 12-litre Eagle concept unit.
PEUGEOT
• The main difference between the Peugeot Talbot 504 GL pickup and the standard model is that the GL has a fivespeed gearbox, higher-quality trim, and offers a payload of 5kg less at 1,260kg.
A 1.8-litre engine and 2.3-litre diesel develop 60kW (80hp) at 5,500rpm and 52kW (70hp) at 4,500rpm respectively. The load platform has a useable floor area of 2.7m and a limited slip differential aids traction for off-road work.
There are now five standard Express Vans: the 1000, 1400, 1500, 1800, and the Turbo diesel, Payloads range from 1,050kg to 1,900kg, and engine options are a two-litre petrol engine; 1.9 or 2.5litre diesel engines, and a 2.5-litre turbocharged diesel.
This, the most powerful option, produces 70kW (95hp) at 3,700rpm and 205Nm (151Ibft) at 2,000min. The Talbot passenger range includes a 13 or 16-seat Cargobus and 12 or 15-seat Sportsman with standard or 'L' specification.
RENAULT
• Renault has extended its top-of-therange R-series tractive units with the R365, increasing the maxiumum nett power from 247kW (331hp) to 267kW (359hp) with a torque output of 1,620Nm (1,195Ibft).
It uses an uprated version of the MIMI six-cylinder 12-litre engine with revised fuel injection and charge cooling.
Both 4x2 and 6x2 models will be available, the latter incorporating a York Transport Engineering air-suspended, postively-steered axle conversion. A sleeper cab comes as standard but the Turboliner high-roof cab is available as an option. Kerbweights for the two models are 6,605kg and 8,140kg. Both use Renault's B18 18-speed range-change synchromesh gearbox and have a design weight of 59 tonnes.
For the first time Renault has a Britishbuilt eight-wheeler; the G290 30D. This 8X4 has the six-cylinder, 9.8-litre chargecooled MIDR 06.20.45 engine rated at 2171(W (291hp) with maximum torque of 1.176Nm (8671bft). For tipper work 5.0 and 5.57m wheelbases are available with ; 5.57m version for general haulage.
Renault's B9 nine-speed range-change synchromesh gearbox comes as standard with the splitter as an option.
RV1 has added the G290-17D two-axle( drawbar model to its 17-tonne range, witl the option of an air-suspended drive axle. It uses the same engine as the eightwheeler.
Wheelbases range from 4.8 to 6.3m an for the first time the G-range is shown with a day version of the high-roof GT cab.
At 7.5-tonnes RTI has developed a lighter version of the Midliner, offering about 300kg more payload than existing models. Redesigning the front and rear axles, chassis frame and braking system,
