Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The TGWU has put in a 10-a-week across-theboard pay claim to the RHA negotiating committees in London, Kent and Eastern regions, a £2 increase in overnight subsistence rates and a one hour reduction in the working week without loss of pay. The union also wants a weekly supplement to the pay round for drivers in London and Kent which will reflect the high cost of living in those areas.

• Ryder Distribution Services, a subsidiary of USbased Ryder System, has entered the public sector market with a five-year dedicated transport contract with South East Thames Regional Health Authority (SETRHA).

• Parceline processed its 40 millionth parcel at its new Superhub in the West Midlands last week. The Smethwick hub has a computer-controlled laser system, which enables each parcel to be sorted within 90 seconds of arrival, at a rate of up to 24,000 parcels an hour.

• BRS has abandoned its push to impose regional pay awards and scrap the company's long-standing national agreement with the TGWU. This follows a strike ballot at BRS in favour of industrial action if the management pursued its plan.

• Parcels carrier, Nightfreight, plans to build a central hub in the West Midlands. Designed to handle 40,000 parcels a night, the centre is expected to be in operation by September 1989. There will be improved facilities for staff and fuel and truck washing will be provided.

• The winner of our competition to have the use of a Renault G290 tractive unit for a year is Les Gaskins of Favor Parker in Norfolk. The keys of the G290 will be handed over at the Motor Show next week, and the G290 will join the Favor Parker fleet at the beginning of November.
