Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ping vehicle pneumatically? If so, has a pneumatic tipping gear been produced?

AYes, it is possible. At one time an underfloor type of pneumatic tipping gear was employed by a number of Italian bodybuilders, notably for side-tipping vehicles.

A recent investigation into the potential of this tipping method by COMMERCIAL MOTOR revealed that the feasibility of its application is discounted by UK manufacturers because of its bulk and the length of time required to elevate the body with the low air pressure produced by conventional compressors.

If air braking equipment is developed that operates at a very much higher pressure than existing systems, the production of a pneumatic tipping gear may be reconsidered, but it is unlikely that it would ever oust the hydraulic type for run-of-the-mill applications. It might well be suitable, however, for special applications involving a small angle of tip.
