Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

I FOLLOW with great interest all the comments and articles in your very excellent magazine concerning Mrs. Castle's new proposals for the road transport industry.

Already it would seem that her new licensing proposals are having their effect, namely that makers of lorries and trailers are feeling the effect of the industry's uncertainty with customers not buying new rolling-stock; and who can blame them? If these new proposals are passed in the next session of Parliament a great many people are going to be affected from the transport cafe owner up through the whole industry to the vehicle maker. If her statement at the Labour Party Conference is to be taken as her future plans then even taxi drivers and private hire firms are going to be drawn into her net.

It would seem that the general public is not very aware of the burden that may be placed on the ratepayer with these ideas, and I don't think that pamphlets are the answer. What is needed is really strong action! Why not a withdrawal from the roads for two or three days of all vehicles carrying goods? I am sure that the majority of road haulage firms, and factories, etc., which use long-distance lorries for reliability and quickness could stand a standstill for a few days and it is for the good of everyone concerned to show this country that a really efficient road haulage system is a vital necessity for the country and consumer alike.
