Metropolitan (Gazette No. 30):

The L.M. and S. Railway Co. is shown in Gazette 24 of the Southern Scotland Traffic Commissioners to have been granted a number of licences in respect of tours. Services of many other operators have also been licensed.
The Northern General Transport Co., Ltd., will be a prominent applicant at the Northern Commissioners' sitting at South Shields next week, stage-carriage licences being chiefly concerned. Gazette 1.4 for this area shows few objections.
On the other hand, the "objections or representations" column of Gazette 25 for the Yorkshire Area is well supported, the names of the L.M.S. and L.N.E. Railway Companies frequently appearing. Licences for excursions and tours will be the chief matter for consideration at the Yorkshire Commissioners' next sitting at Sheffield.
Rochdale Corporation, the North Western Road Car Co., Ltd., and Ribble Motor Services, Ltd., will be important applicants at the sitting of the North Western Commissioners at Manchester from October 19th-23rd. The applications of certain operators will meet with a considerable amount of opposition.
A large number of applications will be heard by the West Midland Traffic Commissioners when they sit at Shrewsbury this week, and a considerable amount of opposition should add interest to the proceedings. Licences for stage and express carriages will chiefly be sought. Gazette 28 for this area lists many applications received but not yet considered.
When the East Midland Commissioners sit next week at Peterborough they will consider, amongst other applications, several in respect of services from London to the northcountry, and the railway companies will be found amongst the objectors.
Gazette 26 of the Eastern Area announces the fact that in the matter of the appeal of Reg. H. Barbrooke and Co., of North Walsham, against the Commissioners' refusal of a road-service licence in respect of the WalcotNorwich route, the Minister of Transport has decided not to make an Order on the Commissioners.
Although the Southern Traffic Commissioners have granted numerous licences and backings, the Royal Arsenal Co-operative Society, Ltd., Woolwich, London, has been refused backings in respect of licences for stage-carriage services between Woolwich and Torquay and Bournemouth. Varsity Express Motors, Ltd., Cambridge, has been refused a backing for a licence for an express-carriage service between Cambridge and Poole, -whilst Link Safety Coaches (Bournemouth), Ltd., has been refused permission for a Bournemouth-Oxford service.
The usual names appear under the heading of objectors to applications for licences in Gazette 30 of the South Eastern Traffic Commissioners. Numerous services from London to seaside resorts are involved.
Several applications for licences for services from London to coastal resorts have been refused by the Metropolitan Traffic Commissioner, whilst amongst other concerns, the Samuelson New Transport Co., Ltd., has withdrawn its application for permission to operate between London and Exmouth.
• The Commissioner's sitting in Lon-. don, next week, will be a busy one, and the London General Omnibus Co., Ltd., will lodge objections to a large number of applications. According to Gazette 30 for this area, Messrs. J. Cohen (Dix Luxury Coaches), London, who specialize, to a large extent, in services to sports meetings, are fortunate in. having no opposition to face.
