Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A SUB-CONTRACTOR who claims he is owed £10,000 by collapsed haulier E Pawson & Son says he could be out of business by January because he is struggling to repay his factoring company.

The fallout from the administration of the Yorkshire haulage business has left some smaller companies thousands of pounds out of pocket, as well as questioning how its directors were granted a new 0-licence to begin trading again as Pawson Transport.

Andrew Waite, who carried out work for Mill Transport — whose shares were acquired by E Pawson & Son in February 2007 for £.1 — says he had just got his Sheffield business Woodside Site Services back on track after another business went bust on him when this company hit problems.

Waite says: "I was working all the hours God sends and got myself back on an even keel. I am still suffering financially because of what happened.

"To be honest, every day is a constant battle," he adds. "I can't plan anything. The factoring company is banging interest on so much that, although I have paid £2,000 off the debt, it's still just over £11,000. Realistically I don't know how I'm going to be in business by the end of the year."

When CM asked Pawson Transport director Rachel Slade to comment on sub-contractors' anger that the firm was awarded a 0-licence she said: "The only comments we made were at the public inquiry. We have no further comment to make at this time."
