AS A YOUNG DRIVER of 26.1 am keen to watch the transport industry to get an insight into the future security of my chosen career.
As a result, I buy every issue of the main transport magazines, including CM, T&D and Truck. The one subject that frequently pops up is the national driver shortage and the various ideas to combat the problem. The one mistake that everyone appears to be making (or which is omitted from the re ports) is that they can put anyone in a truck, give them a licence and send them out to work. My point is that this is not always possible. Driving a car proves beyond the capabilities of many road users, so how can they be put in a truck? Truck driving is a specialist skill and often cannot be passed on to Joe Public. Most of us were born with it!
