Freight Transport Association economics analyst Rachel Hare adds: "Two things which we were particularly interested in were the rise in light CVs and the growth in own-account operations, which increased its market share for the first time in three years.
The growth in van haft is almost entirely down to the burgeoning home delivery market," she explains. We think the growth in own-account transport is due to a healthy construction market we notice that there is a strong correlation between the two. We have also seen a change in the type of vehicles over the last 10 years, with artics now carrying two-thirds of freight, compared with 55% a decade ago. We put this down to the introduction of 44-tonne vehicles," Hare adds.
