July 5 and 6 there will be a symposium on diesel engines—breathing and combustion, at the Advanced School of Automobile Engineering, Cranfield, Beds. The meeting will be sponsored jointly by ASAE and the automobile division of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
Six papers will be presented. They will be:— "The breathing and combustion requirements of the small high-speed -diesel engine" by D. Broome (Ricardo and Co. Ltd.).
"Similarity considerations in assessing diesel engine fuel spray requirements" by B. E. Knight (CAV Ltd.).
"An experimental study of flow through poppet valves" by W. A. Woods and S. R. Khan (University of Liverpool).
"Induction system development for highperformance, direct-injection diesel engines" by P. E. Jones (Perkins Engines Ltd.).
“The application of some analytical techniques to the study of turbocharging the automotive diesel engine" by G. Garratt and D. E. Gee (University of Leeds).
"Turbocharging of automotive two-stroke engines" by D. W. Tryhom (Sir W. G. Armstrong Whitworth and Co. Ltd.).

Kennings Buy Essex Distributors: The Kenning Motor Group has ' purchased the Shell-Mex and BP authorised distributorship covering the major pan of Essex from Mayes of Wickford Ltd. Consideration for the purchase is £79,489, which has been satisfied by the issue of 125.000 Ordinary shares of 5s. each in the company, and £6,916 in cash. The business will trade as Kenning Fuel Supplies from depots at Southend. Romford and Epping. Mr. P. W. E. Coppen has been appointed manager.
