PRESIDENT of the Confederation of British Industries, Sir Maurice Laing, paid tribute to the "live, virile and inventive" engineers employed by the industry when he opened the Mechanical Handling Exhibition on Tuesday.
A new type of wire pallet developed by Bambergers Pallets and Cases Ltd., typifies this inventiveness. It will carry more than a ton of cartoned or cased products and is likely to cost as little as 6s. 6d. in quantity production, so that it should prove of great interest in transport and warehousing circles.
Typifying the wide range of heavy lifting fork-lift trucks and cranes on show at Earls Court, the immensely robust Lancer Boss side-loader, carrying a Rollalong container, may soon be a familiar sight at port installations.
Newly introduced by Mercury Truck and Tractor Co. Ltd., the 6,000 lb. capacity industrial truck illustrated may be equipped with petrol or diesel engine and a LP gas converston is also available.
