MR. R. G. JAMES, general manager of East Kent Road Car Co., Ltd.; MR. C. W. WROTH, general manager of Potteries Motor Traction Co., Ltd., and MR. H. ORME WHITE, manager and engineer, Gosport and Fareham Omnibus Co., were elected last week to the council of the Public Transport Association.

Mr. 1. A. BRECKELL, managing director of Breckell and Nicholls, Ltd., Auckland, publishers of New Zealand Road Transport and Contracting, is visiting Britain to explain New Zealand's industrial needs to manufacturers. He is to tour Britain, concentrating mainly on the Midlands and the industrial north, and will be in London for some time. His address here will be care of Australia and New Zealand Bank, Ltd., 71 Cornhill, London.

MR. T. H. SUMMERSON, SIR CECIL MCALPINE Warn and MR. F. A. POPE have been appointed part-time members of the British Transport Commission. Mr. Summerson is chairman of the North Eastern Area Board of the B.T.C. Sir Cecil is shortly to relinquish his appointment as head of the British delegation to the High Authority of the European Coal and Steel Community. Mr. Pope, a former chairman of the Ulster Transport Authority, has just retired from his appointment as a fulltime member of the B.T.C.

Ma. L. COLKETT has succeeded the late MR. S. 0, JARVIS as secretary of C. C. -Wakefield and Co., Ltd. Mr. Colkett joined the company in 1934.

MR. R. C. ALLEN, general sales manager of F. Perkins, Ltd., flies to North America on Sunday to make an extensive tour and meet manufacturers of appliances for which Perkins engines are suitable.

ATIIELSTONE TRY AGAIN

AN application was made by Athelstone Coaches,. Ltd., Hullavington, to the Western Licensing Authority last week to run an express service at week-ends to London for R.A.F. personnel, Ontwo ' previousoccasions the company had been granted a licence which had been revoked on appeal by the railways.

For the applicants, Mr. T. D. Corpe (who had in the earlier cases represented the railways) said that the rail service was inconvenient and there was a big difference in road and rail fares.. The rail fare was Et lls. 6d.. including the road link between Hullavington and Chippenham station, whereas the road fare was 15s.

At present, Athelstone Coaches provided vehicles to take men to the station but this was not a paying proposition.

Mr. A. C. F. Wyndeatt, for the railways, denied allegations that trains were crowded.

The application was granted.
