BY altering the inlet ports and modifying the toroidal cavity in the pistons, Leyland Motors, Ltd., have increased the output of the Tiger Cub oil engine from 90 b.h.p. at 2,200 r.p.m. to 105 b.h.p. at 2,400 r.p.m. The torque improvement is from 240 lb./ft. to 255 lb./ft. at 1,400 r.p.m.

The inlet ports have been enlarged and shaped to intensify swirl and improve aspiration. By reducing the diameter and increasing the depth of tha toroidal cavity in the pistons, " squish " is now much greater and the mixture improved.

When used in Tiger Cub bus chassis, the unit will be governed at 2,000 r.p.m., at which speed 95 b.h.p. is developed, the torque being 255 lb./ft. at 1,400 r.p.m. In coach chassis it will ba governed at the higher speed for maximum output.

As the unladen weight of the Tiger Cub, either as a bus or coach, is under 6 tons, the power-weight ratio with the modified engine is now 15 b.h.p. per ton for an unladen bus, and 17.5 b.h.p. for an unladen coach. At maximum gross vehicle weight the bus has a powerweight ratio of 10i b.h.p. per ,ton, and the coach, 11 b.h.p. per ton.

TWO VEHICLES TRANSFERRED

THE Northern Licensing Authority has granted the transfer of an A licence for two livestock vehicles of Mr. Sealby, of Unthank End, to Mr. Robert Kelso, of Lazenby, Penrith, who assisted Mr. Sealby -during his illness and is now taking over the oldestablished business.
