Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Selected Information which Is likely to be of Iaterest to Makers, Owners, and their Buyers.

" St:LBY " (Bournemouth).—The manufacture of pressed-steel back-axle castings for your cabs might be entertained by Bearchnores of Glasgow, Rubery Owen of Darlaston, or the Projectile Co., New Road, Wandsworth.

" A.S." (Shaftesbury Avenue) writes: " I hear there is some place in London where cloths can be obtained for cleaning motor vehicles, on the principle adopted by the Clean Towel Supply Company, that is to say, on loan with a subsequent charge of so much per hundred for cleaning. I should like to know if this is so, and where such cloths may be obtained."

The Repair of Broken Castings.

We are asked to state that the Castings Repair Company, Limited, has removed its works from Stillhouse Yard, Waterloo Road, Hunslet, Leeds, to 31, Balmoral Street, Ilunslet. The business has recently been floated as a private limited liability company, the managing director of which is Mr. C. E. Fitton. It may he known to some of our readers that this gentleman was one of the firs-h in this country successfully to weld cast-iron. A special plant has been installed in the new premises, which is capable of dealing with any broken cast-iron cylinders, or for difficult repairs of a like nature. Aluminium castings such as crankcases, gearboxes and other automobile components are specially cared for in a separate department of the same works. In order that repairs may be carried out in their entirety, special arrangements have been entered into with Messrs. B. W. Clegg and Son at the same address, in order that the machining of broken parts, which have been welded, may be satisfactorily carried out. As we understand that this latter firm has been for some years turning out component parts for motor vehicles of all descriptions, as well as complete chassis for certain factors, they should be quite well able to assist the Castings Repair Company in this respect. Judging from the large increase in business which, we are informed, has resulted from the combination indicated above, the company is likely to be more than satisfied with the change it has made. Lamps for the Illumination of Taximeters.

Brown Brothers, Limited, of Great Eastern Street, E.C., has sent to us for inspection a very useful little combination lamp, which this company has introduced specifically for the lighting of taximeters in accordance with the new regulations to which we have already referred on various occasions. In combination with the reflected light which is directed on to that face of the taximeter which is exposed to the passenger, a small blue glass disc, on which the letters " For Hire " appear in white, is masked or exposed at will by the driver. The lamps are made to burn either ordinary paraffin o r lubricating oil. They are very strongly made, compact in design, and the various parts are readily accessible for cleaning purposes. It is known as the Duca, and Brown Brothers, Limited, will be pleased to quote a low price for this useful little accessory in quantities.

The expedients to which owners have been driven to comply with the new regulations on the subject of the lighting of taximeter dials have resulted in the fixing of very unworkmanlike-looking arrangements to some of the taxicabs running in London. The general appearance of a smartly-appointed taxicab is by no means improved by the addition of an unsteady and badly-made cycle lamp perched at an uncomfortable angle on an elongated bracket. The Deco lamp complies with the new regulations in a thoroughly practicable manner and ensures that the taxicab's appearance shall not be spoilt for the want of a " haiporth of tar."
