WEARING a mauve-coloured turban, bearded Mr. Dalys Singh appeared before the East Midland Traffic Commissioners, last week, to put his case for a new express coach service linking Leicester and Delhi. B. and S. Coaches, in which he is a partner, planned to charge £45 single and £90 return for the six-week trip to India.

He explained that the 33-seat coach would be driven by his partner, Mr. D. Broughton, and his cousin, whose exploits while travelling by car between this country and India had led to the idea. The vehicle would average 23+ m.p.h., covering 260 miles a day, and a twice-yearly service would be operated.

When the Commissioners granted a licence for the Leicester-Dover stage of the route, Mr. Singh was told: "We have ' granted some licences in our time, but never one involving 5,200 miles."

An objection by Barton Transport, Ltd., was withdrawn after an undertaking by Mr. Singh that passengers would not be picked up or set down between Leicester and India.
