Capacious Carrimore Semi-trailer for Use with Karrier Cob. Contents Discharged through Sliding Trap-doors in Floor

AN accompanying illustration shows an interesting municipal semitrailer, coupled up to a Karrier tractive unit, that was completed a week or two ago by Carrimore Six Wheelers,

Ltd., North Finchley, London, N.12, for 'carrier Motors, Ltd., Biscot Road, Luton. The complete outfit is for Glasgow Corporation.

Having a capacity of 18 chic yards, the main compartment, which is divided by a partition amidships, is loaded through side openings screened by strip-rubber curtains. The loading height is that of the waist rail, but to obviate the need for trimming the load when the body is full, hinged side flaps are provided which can be raised after loading.

The most interesting feature of the vehicle is the method of discharging the refuse. This is done by opening sliding trap-doors in the bottom. The floor is made in two sections, and the operation consists of first moving the rear floor forwards, under the front floor, which is done by a handle, at the side, actuating a winding gear, and then sliding the two floors rearwards.

Receiving hoppers are, of course, necessary at the discharge point, the vehicle being driven over these •on a suitable runway. The trap-doors afford an effective opening of 10 ft. by 4 ft., and to facilitate complete discharge of the refuse, the steel-lined sides are set at an angle of about 50 degrees.

Bulky articles can be accommodated in the rounded front of the body.
