Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A letter urging the government to begin immediate talks on the growing shortage of overnight parking areas for trucks has been sent to Transport Minister John Spellar.

The letter, signed by a group including the Drivers Action Movement, the Transport 8.6 General Workers Union, the Road Haulage Association and the Freight Transport Association, offers a set of proposals designed to ease the shortage.

"We want the government to do something immediately," says DAM secretary Jack Crossfield. "We want a meeting with them as soon as possible; ideally within the next two weeks," he adds.

The letter follows a recent meeting of the group which was set up after DAM presented a report to the Parliamentary Transport Select Committee last year.

This showed that only 44% of local authorities in a DAM survey provided overnight parking for trucks.

DAM wants to see overnight truck parks becoming a stan dard feature of every indush development. It believes tl land attached to existing ind trial estates should also adapted for this role.
