• A new freight forwarding firm claims it will offer a fairer deal to hauliers.
The International Drivers Club is owned by Douglas Red path, who promises that hauliers will get the full rate being paid by customers — and to prove it he will send operators copies of faxes from customers showing
the rate they are paying. Redpath's profit will come from a registration charge of £100 per vehicle per year. A flat rate of z35 per load will cover administration, and loads will be offered ferry-paid.
IDC will specialise in reefer loads, especially fish, but there will be some tilt work too.
Redpath aims to have IDC up and running within two weeks, so as to catch the start of the herring season.
At a later date Redpath plans to bring in Continental drivers, starting with the Dutch.
He already has contacts across Europe, having spent six months as transport sales manager with Christian Salvesen. Redpath has also worked at NFC's forwarding operation in Bedford.
