We have 75 years of axle experience that's ready to go to work in your trucks — experience that's made us the number one producer of heavy-duty axles in North America. When you need an axle for on — or on/off — highway use, there's a 99 per cent chance that Rockwell International can supply it. And a 100 per cent certainty that if we do — and if you use it — it will help maximize your vehicle's performance and operatoe.s revenue.
Full range of axles.
We can provide single rear axles from 6 to 17 tonnes, and tandems from15 to 32 tonnes. Additionally, a full range o front steering, front drive, and trailer axles are available.
State-of-the-art design.
One of our axles, the SQHP tandem 18 tonnes axle rating) is designed to pro, vide a useful life of up to1.6 million km in long-haul highway service. It has the same type lubrication system used in modern diesel engines ... pump pressurized, with filtered lubrication tO critical subassemblies. The SQHP, with a GCW rating of 42 tonnes, is lighter than competitive axles with the same ratings, and when additional weight savings are desired, aluminium carrier castings are available. Additionally we have introduced a new famiiy of extra heavy duty single reduction axles with GCW ratings up to 75 tonnes.
Designed for European service.
We have taken our highly successful R-170, which is the most popular axle in its class in the U.S.A. and upgraded it with unique European road conditions in mind.
The resulting R-180 (11.5 tonnes axle rating) and U-180 (13 tonnes axle rating) Hypoid Single Reduction Axles with their 500mm hypoid ring gear are designed to meet the proposed EEC Regulations of .42 tonnes (92590Ib) permissible for motorways. Optional driver controlled cross differential locks provide additional desirable features for the R-180 and U-180 axles. Wide range ratios.
Our extensive family of single reduction tandem and single rear axl offers ratios from 3.55 to 7.4. Fast ra such as 3.55 and 3.7 enable modern torque rise, low speed diesels to attai highway speeds without using overd transmissions. Result: Significantly re fuel consumption, 'lower maintenance vehicle operating costs.
Single reduction simplicity.
Because of today's more accurate gear cutting and improved heat treating techniques for large gears and shafts, these Rockwell axles can deliver all the benefits inherent in single reduction Here's how they compare to wheelreduction axles: ically simple: These axles simplify nd parts inventories because they • :o 44 fewer major parts — and less the number of wearing parts. ; simplified by the fact that all gears are located in a front-mounted here gears — along iifferential easily accessible. Wheel impler; therefore brakes and rings are easier to service. are strong and rugged. Lighter Weight: These axles also save up to135 kg of weight, giving users a very pleasant option: either increase payloads or decrease fuel costs. Less weight also means less wear on shock absorbers, drive shafts, axle components, springs and tyres.
More efficient more cost effective. All these advantages add up to lower operating costs. And they are advantages you can rely on because of Rockwell International's technological design improvements; a husky hypoid gear that can transmit up to 30 per cent more torque than spiral bevel gearing of the same size; silicone formedin-place gaskets for surer seals and reduced gasket inventories, Torsion Flow® half shafts that are among the strongest in the industry Place your order for Rockwell axles with: Rockwell international Automotive Operations, Rockwell House, 23 Grafton Street, London W1P 5LG, England, phone: 01409 0291.
