by John Darker • Although entries were up on last year at the Newcastle LDOY round at the Team Valley Trading Estate on Sunday, general driving standards were lower and far too many points were dropped by some entrants in the Highway Code questions. This was stressed by national steward, Mr. E. R. Lunn, at the prize-giving. To drop 25 or 30 points here is simply not good enough for "professional" drivers.

Last year's winner, T. 0. Metcalfe, of Proctor and Gamble Ltd., was runner-up but his score of 59 in winning Class D helped P and G to win the team award. W. Robinson, of Beecham Foods, with 49 penalty points, easily won Class E(2) to become overall winner with some Northern money on his success in the final.

Refreshment facilities during the afternoon left much to be desired.
