• A Cannock operator who tried to "tidy up" his licensing by putting 20 vehicles on A licence was told by the West Midland LA, Mr. J. Else, in Birmingham last week that he had no case but that his conditions could easily be tidied and suggested that he sought the help of the R HA. F. and D. Burton wanted to place the vehicles on A licence and was ready to surrender a Contract A for six of the fleet and a B licence for the other 14. An objection was entered by BRS.
Mr. D. R. Burton said that he wanted to be able to carry return loads. He said, however, that his fleet was fully employed and further vehicles would be acquired when it was economically practical. It was not his aim to chase additional traffic but to be able to accept loads when it was convenient. Mr. Burton said that his vehicles had been as far as Dundee and that was a long way to travel back empty.
Letters supporting the application were provided by the Midland Brick Co. and Bridgetown Industries Ltd. F. and D. Burton carry for these and their associate companies.
Mr. H. Simpson, for BRS, pointed out that the applicant had found no difficulty in keeping his rates down despite having to travel back empty on occasions.
Mr. Else said that due to a lack of witnesses and the fact that no real case had been made out he would refuse the application.
