• Just four months after beginning operations, Birmingham based Overnight Express Ltd., now an individual company within the BRS network, is extending its special parcels road delivery service to a second route, running through 13 more towns from Birmingham.
When started in February, the area covered extended from the Midlands to Manchester and westwards through Liverpool to Preston, Blackburn and Bolton. Route 2 strikes north eastwards to Barnsley and circles through Leeds, Bradford, Harrogate and York. As with Route 1 the scheme is based on speed and simplicity; Overnight Express operates between the Linked British Road Servioes Ltd. depots on each of the routes and all the customer has to do is deliver to the depot in the evening, and the goods will be ready for collection at the destination depot the next morning. There are only two charges: up to 281b, 10s; 28-56 lb, El. These charges are irrespective of distance and include free insurance up to £10. Furthermore, there is a guarantee that if delivery is not on schedule there will be no charge.
When Route 1 was launched two Ford Transit vans, finished in the orange and blue livery of the service, were used. These have since been augmented by two 6-ton BMC box vans.
