Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The number of trucks using the Channel Tunnel shuttle trains rose by 15.5% in June, to 32,650.

That figure is likely to rise further during the summer as Eurotunnel increases truck and tourist shuttle departures to up to four an hour at peak times.

Latest figures show that longdistance freight trains using the tunnel increased by 28% to 596. High-speed Eurostar train departures also rose, by 23% to 730.

P&O European Ferries carried 55,000 trucks on its Dover-Calais and Dover-Zeebrugge routes in June.

Eurotunnel's claimed 35% of the Dover-Calais freight market and 30% of the car market angered the ferry companies, which disputed the figures (CM 8-14 June).
