Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

QWhen we take our shunter vehicles down to the garage for service from the docks we always use trade plates as they are not taxed, don't go on the highway and don't comply with the Construction and Use Regulations. A policeman told my driver that he shouldn't be using the trade plates this way. We have trade plates to move unregistered new or secondhand cars.

ST, Dover ATrade plate usage is governed by the 1971 Vehicles Excise Act and the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulations 1971 amended by a statutory instrument in 1986.

To enable you to use them you must have been deemed to be a motor trader. This term covers a number of types of business such as manufacturers, repairers, dealers etc. You are obviously involved in the trade and I can see nothing wrong in the use of the plates for your purpose.
