Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

They have received a lot of bad publicity in recent months because of a spate of high-speed crashes following car chases.

This week, the Hawk heard of a rather more bizarre and less violent ending to a car chase involving police officers in an unmarked Granada. They spotted a British School of Motoring Metro which, they allege, jumped two sets of traffic lights.

The vehicle was driven by BSM driving instructor Anthony Murian who told Chelmsford Crown Court that he tried to flee the unmarked Granada because he had no way of knowing it was a police car.

The police say that Murian, of Malvern Close, Chelmsford drove his car at 60mph in a :30mph zone and reached 100mph on a stretch of motorway. Unlike the Canadian Mounties, the two police officers were unable to get their man, however. They pursued him as far as the Dartford Tunnel but discovered they were out of cash when they reached the toll booth. Martin had 70p to hand and went on his way.

The case, in which Murian denies reckless driving, continues.
