• British Rail's Railfreight boosted its profit by over 50% to a record 269m for the year to 31 March, says BR chairman Sir Robert Reid.
'The company has won new 10-year contracts with Tarmac and ARC for the movement of aggregates; a new 15-year con tract with Total Oil, and renewed deals with Esso and Elf El BR's Red Star parcels business has clinched a five-year contract worth £46m to carry Post Office letters. Red Star's turnover is up 26%.
