• Barton Buses has issued 71 redundancy notices to staff as a first step towards the 150 envisaged in the takeover by Wellglade, completed this month (CM 22-28 June).
Barton will continue as a separate entity under newlyappointed traffic manager Keith Shayshutt, but many head office functions are being moved to Derby.
Operations will continue from the existing four depots for the time being, though premises were not included in the deal. Engineering work has already moved to the Trent depot at Ilkeston.
Further jobs will be cut as the operation is reviewed.
