Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Employees of Derby City Transport have won their battle to take over the company after six months of negotiations with the city council.

The workers' bid topped five others from the OCT senior management, Trent, Midland Fox, Stevenson and Go-Ahead Northern.

The six short-listed bidders were selected from over 60 applicants. The workforce was backed by Luton & District, which was the subject of a successful workforce buyout two years ago. They offered well in excess of £3 million, and the ciy council will also take a dividend of £0.5 million before the sale is completed.

DCT Managing director Peter Crook is retiring: he will be replaced by Bob Hind, former managing director of Leicester City Transport.

John Tidbury of the employee buyout committee says his colleagues are delighted with their success: "Our bid has met all the criteria laid down by the city council. We've offered a commercial price and sensible proposals for the company's future, and we are convinced that the people of Derby will benefit."
