• The first aerodynamic Norfrig Transpolar reefer trailer to be built in the UK (CM 6-12 July) has several important changes in its construction compared with its continental counterpart.
Though the trailer, now in operation with Pulleyn Transport, is very similar to the Kassbohrer version, it is not a monocoque design. The decision has been taken to mount the Norfrig body on a slim chassis offering weight savings.
John Bowkett from Norfrig GB says that the front of the trailer's goose-neck chassis is buried into the floor of the trailer body to maximise the in ternal height of the trailer, while keeping its external height to four metres.
Bowkett says the Transpol trailer has an internal width 01 2.47 metres to accommodate two roll pallets across its widi and provide good airflow,
Pulleyn Transport's Transp lar trailer is fitted with a The' moking SB250 fridge unit and specially-mounted tail-lift. Thi trailer will be pulled by one 01 the first Mercedes-Benz 17.4 tractive units to enter service in this country.
Bowkett says the package will add between £3,500 and £4,250 to the cost of a standard Norfrig trailer.
