THIS four-wheel-drive Ford A-Series was converted by NAM Special Vehicles Ltd of Newton Abbot, Devon, who call it the Hillbilly.
The front-drive/steer axle uses a Ford differential but the steering assembly was designed by NAM engineers. An American transfer box, manufactured by New Process Gears, is mounted behind the main gearbox, giving a high ratio of Ito I and a low ratio of 2.01 to 1. Four-wheel drive is a permanent feature but to accommodate road use, a limited slip differential is cluded which can be loct out for off-road use.
NAM has a long associat with 4 x 4s and this model 1 taken two-and-a-half years develop. The Post Offl water boards and electric boards are among firm Cl tomers for the vehicle.
Ford has shown consid able interest in the conversi and has contributed some the technical know-how, cannot extend its warranty assemblies affected by sucl conversion.
