TRANSPORT Minister Norman Fowler has appointed Hugh McNamara to succeed chairman of the Scottish Traffic Commissioners and LA Alexander Bimie who retires at the end of the month.
Mr McNamara is an assistant secretary in the Scottish Office and has spent several years engaged in planning transport matters including the 1968 Transport Act.
At present he is head of the Manpower and Organisation Division of the Scottish Office.
Mr Birnie was appointed as chairman of the Traffic Commissioners for the Scottish Area in 1964 following a career in the Admiralty and the Department of Transport.
